FAQ
Do I need a licence or registration to ride a lifecycle e-bike?
No, under current Australian Road Laws lifecycle e-bike is considered to be a ‘normal’ pedal bicycle. Therefore, licence or registration is not required, however you must wear a good quality, properly fitted bicycle helmet.
Do I need to pedal?
Yes, lifecycle is a Pedal Assist e-bike, so the only way to get electric assistance is to pedal. No pedalling, no electric assistance. Lifecycle includes an LCD controller on the handlebars that allows the rider to adjust how much electric assistance they receive.
Riding an electric bike with pedal-assist is incredibly intuitive, and anyone who can ride a bike will immediately feel comfortable on one.
How many assist modes are there?
Lifecycle e-bikes have three levels of electric assistance – Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. You can adjust your assist mode whilst riding, or even turn-off the electric assistance and continue to ride as a normal bicycle. The choice is yours – battery power, pedal power or a combination of both.
Why are there different assist levels?
Riders don’t always need the same amount of assist. Using less assist increases battery life, while the option to use more is always there for acceleration or climbing hills.
How far can I travel on an e-bike?
On a full charge you can ride distances up to 40km, depending on power modes, terrain and other riding conditions like wind.
How fast can I go?
Max Assist Speed: 25 km/h
How do I know how much power is left in the battery?
The integrated LCD controller displays the current battery level.
What happens if my battery goes flat?
You can continue to ride lifecycle like a normal bicycle
Will the battery charge whilst I pedal?
No. But the recharge process is easy and quick
How long does it take to charge?
Typically allow for 3-4 hours for a full charge
How does it charge?
Lifecycle e-bike comes with its own ‘Australian Approved’ battery charger – which can be plugged into any standard household power point. The battery charges like any personal computer or mobile phone. Plug the charger into a wall outlet and connect the charger to the battery. Lifecycle e-bike doesn’t require you to remove the battery to charge.
How do you turn the battery on/off?
An LCD controller on the lifecycle handlebars lets you adjust the electric assistance, as well as turn-on and turn-off the battery. Lifecycle is designed so these adjustments can be made whilst riding.
Is the battery waterproof?
Yes, however please take caution when riding any bicycle in wet conditions. We recommend reading the following tips for riding in the wet - http://www.bicyclingaustralia.com.au/news/wet-weather-top-tips-for-riding-in-the-rain
Does pedalling charge the battery?
No. Re-charging is only affected via the supplied battery charger.
Is it expensive to run an electric bicycle?
Not at all. Each full charge cycle costs between 10-15 cents in electricity and that is it.
What’s the warranty?
12 months.
What service is required?
Maintenance is generally the same as with any other bicycle. Lithium ion batteries perform better at room temperatures and battery life depletion may occur if left outside in extreme temperatures, so we recommend storing them indoors.
Where can lifecycle be serviced?
Please refer to our list of service agents
What maintenance is involved?
Basically, there is no ongoing maintenance of electrical components other than re-charging batteries. It is advised to keep lifecycle clean at all times. Mechanical bicycle components require normal ‘bicycle’ maintenance.
